Google algorithm update[2010]
To improve the quality and maintain the trust of google users, google started to make many strong algorithm changes. After this algorithm updates most of the ranking websites came down in ranking. Most of the important algorithm updates were done after 2010.
Panda Update Or Google Farmer Updation [2011]
Most significant update in google history was PANDA UPDATE in February 2011. Ever since google let out their SEO starter guide, to know how some websites made to the top in search engine listings. Google benefitted first but later was being spammed with duplicate contents, contents with no quality, contents filled with meaningless matter and full of grammatical mistakes and automated contents. Keywords were stuffed to attain the google page rank. So the google panda update arrived. This update targeted content spamming. Thin pages with very less or no quality webpages, which were content farmed or had duplicated content was completely removed from google listing.
Panda 4.0 [2014]
Later in 2014, the next version of panda update named panda 4.0 was introduced. Panda 4.0 became a permanent filter for all websites. Each websites which successfully passed through this filters or met the terms and conditions of google guide line were crawled, cached and indexed on google search results. Websites which did not pass these filters were crawled and cached, but were never indexed on google search page.
Penguin Update [2012]
This update of google was on 2012 April. This acted against
link spamming activities by webmasters. Different types of links were achieved by webmasters without checking its quality or credibility, only to rank on top in google listings, other spamming activities like
link exchange, link farming by joining link scheme to built up links, automated link building, comment spamming. Links were also tried to achieved by editing contents from Wikipedia, its called as wiki spamming, internal link building and guest blogging was also another link spamming, And also the same user was creating more webpages, only for the sake of building more links
. Penguin 4.0[2016]
Penguin 4.0 was a update on 2016. it was made real time update. So whenever a spamming link was built Penguin 4.0 will act against it and a fall in page ranking can be noticed on real time itself.
Pigeon update[2014]
It is based on local SEO ranking. To work on a SEO for a website, focusing or targeting on local audience, then there are some must followed local SEO practices. Penguin update is connected to this type of practices. This will help to rank the webpage. Searches of certain locality based local audience on that category based keywords will get a search result based on that locality will be indexed. For SEO campaign to be done on certain category business, which need local visibility should do certain things on website, as follows
- Register and add original address and details of website or business on Google My Business and Complete the verification of Google.
- Location pin number and address should be corrected given.
- Should be visible in local directory. Example: Yellow pages.
- map location should be added.
Humming bird update[2013]
It is a sematic search result update. Most interactive search words will be shown first in google search page. Deep information and more satisfactory results are also listed first. Feedback is also a main thing on the basis of which pages reach on top ranking and will be top indexed among search result. Humming bird also started to use artificial intelligence and provided with more satisfying results.
The mobile geddon update[2015]
This update was done because of increase in online users in mobile phones. This update made the mobile user friendly and viewing comfortably. Websites which were not user friendly were pushed down in search engine in mobile phones. Websites which is readable without tapping or zooming will be encouraged to stay on search engine. This update avoids unplayable content or horizontal page scrolling. In 2016 this update was further made better and mobiles were made more interactive and mobile friendly.
Rank brain update [2015]
This is an update on hummingbird algorithm on 2015 April. This uses artificial intelligence which give a google user result according to their needs. This update had an eye on the users age, preference and their recent searches on websites other than google, so that the user gets a more satisfactory result for their queries. Google started act as an personal assistant and indexes a perfect result.
Exact match domain [EMD] update[2012]
EMD update was on September 2012. This update helped google to prevent low quality website from ranking high just because they had their domain names exactly matching the google search keywords. Domain which did not maintain their quality and upgrade the pages were removed from the search listings. It removed those links which were not able to achieve any page rank in a period of time. It also removes less quality, less visible EMD based websites.
Google pirate update[2012]
This update prevented websites that used to copyright the other users content or digital properties. The victim is able to file a complaint on DMCA [digital millennium copyright act] produced by google, after which google would verify the owner and disable the spamming page by appearing in search engine listing. This faking URLs are called as allegedly infringing URL.
Bert Update[2019]
BERT stands for bidirectional encoder representation from transformers. It is a language processing technology. It helped users to provide a search result which relate to the local searched keyword. BERT improved google search understandings in natural language. BERT updates has been done on seven languages till now.
